A NEW BEGINNING
December 25, 1992

Somewhere out there,
I know there is a new beginning.
I will see it when it shown to me.
The floating in pain will end.
I will mend and be myself.
I will become fully formed,
Though always changing.
Every look backward
Will be filled with less hurt.
Every tear I have cried and have wanted to cry,
Will heal my broken spirit.
I will no longer need to guard
My feelings with steel girders.
I will no longer need to cover
The bludgeoned place that is my heart.
I will protect the private me
That I need to learn to love.
I will live and love in peace.
For surely, somewhere out there,
There is love to enfold me.
There is life to be feasted upon.
And the rest of my life will be
Filled with trust and hope.
I will love as I've never had
The courage to love before.
I will find warmth and true belonging without fear.
I will know it when it will come to me,
On the gentle whispers of the wind,
On the sound of peaceful, rolling waves,
On the soft light of pure moonbeams.
And I will be filled with awe and wonder at this gift.
